2012 Somerville Bulb Blitz!
On Saturday 10/27, the Second Ever 2012 Somerville Bulb Blitz took place. The event, touted as a “flash mob for flowers” of sorts, pays off big in blooms in the Spring. People sign up beforehand or show up at different locations announced on Twitter, trowel in hand, to meet their neighbors and plant 2013 bulbs. Over 45 volunteers participated at 8 different public spaces in absolutely perfect weather. Everyone had fun and then, as if on queue, the bulbs were thoroughly watered by Hurricane Sandy.
In addition to the locations pictured above, bulbs were also planted at the Blessing of the Bay Boathouse on the Mystic River and at many different Community Gardens. Here is a neat Google Map of the locations from last years and this year’s blitz! Come Spring, we’ll be walking through streets of flowers! weeeeeeeee!
